I don't mind occasional off-topic info on this list, as the message volume is generally very low. I ran into this WinXP issue recently on a friend's Dell desktop PC when troubleshooting its sudden 'slowness' in launching apps or doing anything drive-related. I looked in the Event Viewer and found various drive errors listed. I then got a copy of the Maxtor drive diagnostic tools which identified the drive as actually having a problem, and that it should be replaced ASAP. So I guess what I'm suggesting is if anyone has recently had WinXP do this (become slow due to the drive), that they get out their drive diagnostic tools and see if there is a hardware problem that is putting your data at risk.
