Well, we got sick of the whole 56k thing and pulled it. Flex was nowhere
near ready to be unleashed when Ascend et al went on a market share rampage
at everyone else's expense. Even though it got more usable as time went on,
we opted not to support it until there's a standard and it works.

We sent an email to all our modem clients explaining our decision and
giving them a little "56k" history lesson. A few were (naturally) upset,
but after reading our "56k" modem story, _all_ were understanding and _not
one_ canceled their service. Yes, we do have unusually loyal customers,
bless 'em.

We still recommend that our clients buy 56k modems and nothing else (if
they don't want ISDN), but we make it clear that we won't do 56k again
until there's a standard and it works with everything (within reason).

People don't need more half-baked tech unleashed before it's time like
CD-ROM, cel phones, and 56k modems.

IMO. ;-)
