Most likely some MS application looking for friends :-)
There is actually a MS Knowledge Base article on problems with NT/Win95
apps keeping the line open. I think the bottom line was that you can either
filter them (ports 137,138, 139 I think) or disable the particular features.

I could try to find the article if that would help - anyone else recall
which number it was ?

Proxy mode "always" is pretty much a redundant option these days. It was
originally included in the infancy days of the Pipeline to make it as
"plug-and-play" as is possible. It actually will cause harm if used on
networks with any more than a single host. I'm pretty sure the docs
spell this out, but if not then let me know and I'll have them updated.
