Re: (ASCEND) 6.1.3 for Max (fwd)

Once upon a time Richard Safran shaped the electrons to say...
>>Rockwell 2.084 firmware supports v.90, K56flex, K56plus, and all slower,
>>standard modem speeds.

All - 300bps?

>Huh? K56plus? I've been busy, so I may have missed this. What's K56plus?

A brief history lesson:
There were originally 3 competing PCM modem proposals.
USR - X2
Lucent - V.flex2
Rockwell - K56Plus.

Now, as we know, Lucent and Rockwell joined camps and bashed their proposals
together to produce K56flex. Basically stripping off keen features rom
V.flex2 like sync mode and high speed uploads to reduce time to market for
the combined camp.

Now, the agreement hammered out K56flex 1.1 as the first interoperable,
publicly shippable level. The 1.0x levels were kind of R&D stuff.

Ok, but Rockwell didn't want to wait - they shipped modems marked 'K56flex'
which were really NOT compatible, they were K56Plus with basic improvements.
But nowhere need the level of K56flex 1.1. If you have a client modem
with a Rockwell code revision <1.0, it is K56plus - like .519, .520, etc.
Rockwell revision 1.0 corresponds to K56flex 1.1.

Those old 'K56Plus' Rockwell clients cannot connect ot a Lucent K56flex
server, or any K56flex server that does not support the Rockell proprietary
K56Plus system.
