RE: (ASCEND) Connection Stats using Mrgt & Finger
Using the normal finger will leave your nas machines open to competitor snooping and make it easier for the bad guys to DOS your users (since they can get user ips so easy).
We've replaced finger with an expect script called finger2, you can disable finger in your maxen and use finger2 to automate a telnet dump of #show users, giving you the same output but password protected. It runs really fast (just slightly slower than normal finger), and works great with mrtg to see the total lines in use and how many are ISDN connections. Mucho faster than snmp.
The sample scripts and mrtg configs are at

Subject: (ASCEND) Connection Stats using Mrgt & Finger
Long, Long Ago, Far, Far, Away, in my fading memory, I seem to
recall someone on this list had worked out a finger to Mrgt
script to chart the number of active connections on a max.
If someone with better short term memory than I could point
me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.
Bob
