I'm not Matt.. and I like STAC with my windows95 + 128k ISDN.
It really makes some ascii transfers fly. Try unix syslog files, for
example.

It is also easy for the PC.. 128k + STAC ftp transfer to my lousy 
60Mhz pentium with passive ISDN card needs 20% cpu. 
Without STAC it takes 10%.

STAC is the *only way* to speed up ISDN connections.

Also if 56k (external)modems are using compression they can be faster than 
a normal serial port. Then the only way up is to use 56k between modem
and computer, and (de)compress with STAC. 

Is there a MAX setting that would work with NT ? Our NT users are not as
happy as win95 people.

The actual problem with STAC & MAX could be in the MAX performance
curve. Some tests have given a result, that MAX *total* throughput
starts to decrease when the offered load is high enough.
