RE: (ASCEND) crashing 6000

You're not the only one who's been having a bad time with the 6000.

Last week, after working flawlessly for about 6 months (running 6.1.3,
stacking, ospf, etc), I had a box that decided to start doing funny stuff
with one of the PRI. After playing with it for about 15 minutes, I
decided a reboot was in order.

Well, I'm kicking half my users offline, so why not the other half? I
went into diagnostics on both 6096's, and did an fsave. I then rebooted
both boxes. A few minutes later, when they should have been back up, I
could get no responce from either one. Hooking up a serial cable to the
first told me that it had lost it's configuration. The second would not
boot at all, having failed the self test with an error 14, whatever that
is.

So, it's 6:30 PM on a Friday night, and as I work feverishly to restore
the configuration on the first max, I called Ascend's technical support
about the box that was completely dead. I was told that an engineer would
call me back some time on monday. FUCK YOU!

I could understand if the call was some idiot that couldn't follow the
directions to get a box configurated, but a $25,000 box that was
completely dead? FUCK YOU AGAIN!

I could understand if it was a new box being rolled out in anticipation of
future growth, but a box in production that services half the users in our
primary market? FUCK YOU MANY TIMES OVER!

Ya know, I'll bet you anything that if one of their larger customers were
to have such a problem, it would get resolved very quick, even though that
larger customer would most likely be able to live without the box for a
weekend.

When we bought our first Max, I had a problem configuring the thing, so I
called and got help within 2 minutes. A few months later, we had a
problem when upgrading the modems. Again, I called ascend, and got help
within a few minutes. Service has gone down hill big time.

What gives? Anyone from Ascend still on this list care to comment? How
is it that you can charge $25,000 for a piece of hardware, then refuse to
support it in a timely fashion?
