(ASCEND) long username
I hope some clever Richard can help me with this "simple" problem.
We are running MAX2012 connected to a 10-channel ISDN line.
Until 2 weeks ago we had only 1 ISP to connect to via a semi-permanent
line
using 2 channels.
Now we need to connect to another provider. Both using CHAP
authentication. With only 1
provider we had our unit named as the required username and all was well
and we ran 6.1.24.
Second provider, obviously, has a different username for us to use and
going via process of
"connect to the 1st ISP"->"change sys name to the second
username"->"connect to 2nd ISP" worked but it's not how we want to keep
on running.
Hence, upgrade to 7.X which provides new Profile parameter, called
SendName. And it does almost exactly what we want - for each profile we
now can specify which username
to use.
Now, the actual problem. The SendName field is limited to 16 chars and
our username for
the second provider is 22 bytes (format username@hostname). At the
moment they fudged it by making username 1 char long but only temporary
and they will not make this change
permanent.
Name for the system is also 16 chars long so we can't use it for long
term use either.
Editing config file and doing trestore did not work. MAX sends first 15
chars followed by +.
Any ideas? I am looking at using RADIUS but the question is how (is at
all possible) do we
configure a RADIUS user that would force MAX to dial out and setup the
permanent link to the ISP as soon as MAX boots. Who is going to force
the call? And will MAX use more
than 16 chars from the RADIUS config?
Thanks
