(ASCEND) VJ Header compression
I seem to be getting some serious performace hits from a Max TNT with just
HDLC-2 cards. The problem seems to be the VJ Header compression code
under 7.2.0
With the TNT under quite heavy load (400 connections, all busy) with VJ
enabled there are frequent pauses in data flow do to (what I believe) is some
data corruption. Essentially the client machine stops 'acking' packets, which
make the remote machine timeout, and eventually resend. With VJ turned off
on either the Win98 client or the TNT, this corruption doesn't happen, so
the clients 'acks' away happily, and a good transfer rate is achieved.
This seems to be a problem with most Terminal servers (I have tested a Nortel
CVX 1800, Cisco 5300 and 3Com total control rack), but the pauses are only
very occasional, while on the busy TNT they are every few seconds. Most
annoying!
Any thoughts?
