(ASCEND) V.90 (and other) probs

Hi there,

 we are running 3 MAX4030. 2 of them are running v6.1.24, the other 
7.0.4.

 Some of our V.90 modemusers complain about bad data rates. Although 
they get quite good connects and good highest rates for short times 
while downloading, they usually end up with 1-2k on every 
ftp-downloads (from the local server).

 Because problems are the same with both versions and the users are 
located in a specific area of our city, we had the telco check the 
lines. We have been told now, that the lines are ok.

 All this made me look at AT strings and such on the ascends (using 
diag -> modemdiag, mdbstr, modemdrvstate) ending up with questions 
more than answers:

 First of all i'd be interessted in any hint, which points me to a 
possible cause of the problems we have.

 Next question is, if some sort of documentation exists for the AT 
commands and S registers for k56 modems. Is there something 
sensefull, i could try to change via AT command? Are there other 
config params (LQM?) which i should give a try?
