Re: (ASCEND) A BIT TO HASTY WITH THE Rma?

If you get a SYSTEM IS UP message without any Fatal Errors just before it,
this usually signifies that the Max was physically powered off (either by a
power outage, or manually done by someone). You normally wouldn't consider
this abnormal unless you know for sure that you never had a power outage or
never manually powered off the Max any time the past year. Hard to say if
an RMA is required otherwise.

Whenever the Max comes back up, it will always log a SYSTEM IS UP message
(it's not really an error). If you did a software reboot via the menu
screens, then you would normally see an OPERATOR RESET message right before
the SYSTEM IS UP message.

About the Fatal Errors, they're usually software related problems so you
should call Lucent support and see if they know of any known bugs associated
with that particular Fatal Error. It might only be a one time occurence if
you only seen it once after all this time.

I spoke with a Lucent technician today, asking him about a fatal error which
occurred on a Max 4048.

It shows as follows. In the past Year, I have only 1 fatal error
recorded...two days ago. HOWEVER, the Lucent tech pointed out that I have
numerous Index: 100 errors, which he said are "abnormal" reboots and warrant
an RMA. "This is a common problem on the Max 4048," he said.

I logged into 10 other Max4048s on our network, and each had about the same
number of Index:100 errors.... About 5 to 8 each over the past year. Do I
have 11 broken Maxes? Is THIS REASON to ASK FOR RMA on all these Maxes? I
think not, but...

What can I make of this?
