(ASCEND) Error on new TNT Ethernet Card

I might be missing something here, but I've  got a new Ethernet-8 card
in our TNT, and I can't get it to work.  I keep  getting the following
error:

LOG error, Shelf 1, Slot 17, Time:  00:49:52--
  Slot 1/3, timeout failure code=0 during TIMEOUT

I already have a functioning card of the  same type in the box.  A
'show' gives it's status as 'RESET'

Any help is appreciated.
