Signal 11 can also mean that your libraries are old.

I had a K5 machine with RH4.1 (approx.) a year and half ago.  I tried to
compile a new kernel and my make zImage gave me signal 11.  I coughed up the
money to buy and intel chip and discovered a week later that a libc upgrade
would have solved my problem.    There went my beer money :/
