whoops, that should be ftp://ftp.cs.umn.edu/pub/Linux/slackware/zipslack

Well, this was interesting.. it only took me ~45 minutes to get my
friend set up.. I downloaded zipslack.zip from the aforementioned site,
unpacked it to C:\ with WinZip, booted into DOS mode, typed "cd linux",
then "linux", and was greeted with a Kernel Panic..

Oops, I had forgotten to set up his HD to be the root partition (the
default is set up for a SCSI device..)

After fixing that, I booted up, typed in 'root' at the login prompt, and
went looking for how to install his network card.. Fortunately, his
network card is PCI, so I just did 'cat /proc/pci' to get the model.. I
set up the network with Slackware's 'netconfig' and ran modprobe on the
appropriate module to load his network driver. ran '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1'
to activate the network configuration, and proceeded to run lynx..

After realizing that lynx isn't the best ftp client in the world, I just
ran plain ol' ftp to mget the /pub/Linux/slackware/slakware/x1
directory.. After downloading, I ran 'installpkg *.tgz' to install X
windows, and proceeded to run 'xf86config' when that was done..

The video card wasn't too hard to set up (just did 'cat /proc/pci'
again..), set up the /dev/mous symbolic link (it's preset to /dev/ttyS0,
I think.. he had a PS/2 mouse..), and X worked beautifully..

So, I'm happy, and it should be relatively easy to do it again in the
future..
