RE: [TCLUG:2447] hardware problem



Packard Bell (along with some other well-known brands) is known for buying
chips from Intel that are otherwise classified as "defective." Usually this
means that you simply don't get as much performance out of a given chip as
advertised, so a 166Mhz CPU might only give you the performance of a 133,
but otherwise work fine. It is certainly possible to assume that these
sub-grade chips are also generally less robust than a fully-qualified
chip...

I'm probably with the bad CPU option as well.

I think it's got 2 MB RAM on the video card (actually, it's probably
on-board video). I'm not sure of more details. I think the fried CPU seems
like the most likely cause of death at this point.
