printer port printing troubles

I'm having /dev/lp0 problems. I have kernel 2.1.131 on rh5.1 (plus a much
of rpm's from rh 5.2). When I run hwdiag it says that for /dev/lp0-2 "Port
does not exist" When I try to print something via lpr, I get "lpr
connection refused." Thinking that this might be related to my new kernel,
I booted to my old kernel (2.0.35) and got the same errors. I have a
module for the parallel port in the kernel, plus ide paralled port drivers
(not that that should matter). dmesg shows: "lp: driver loaded but no
devices found"

/proc/modules shows:

parport_probe 2912 0 (autoclean) (unused)
lp 4876 0 (autoclean) (unused)
parport 6824 0 (autoclean) [parport_probe lp]

Any way to fix this / find out where the problem is?

Thanks again,

Ben
