X may indeed be a piece of shit.  However, you're stuck with it.

We may not be stuck with the implementation which exists today, but we are
definitely stuck with the API because of all the pre-existing
applications.

Now a real trick would be for the GNOME/KDE teams to come up with an X
replacement which is compliant to the X API, requires *only* a recompile
(which is still a lot to ask of people), and allows those new applications
to run under regular X.  Port/test the major toolkits (Tk, etc.) next
after that to make it easy for everyone.  If we make that replacement
standard in the Linux community, the rest of the Unix communities will
have to follow suit just to stay relevant (although I'm sure they would
disagree).

Another alternative would be to simply modify X so it fixes some of the
problems you referenced.  *nyah*  That makes sense.  :+)
