About 663k for an Alpha. That's 0.6Mb. Fits on a floppy.
[size of daemonII, ntserv, robotII, and newstartd].
Never, ever, believe anybody who says Netrek needs a fast machine, lots
of memory, or motherboard bandwidth.
What it needs above anything else is a 10mb/s ethernet connection, of
which it uses about 0.1% for a game of 10 players. We measured that
here.
It's also great for finding intermittent problems in your NIC.
It seems reasonable to run the processes at an elevated priority to
guarantee no interference from other periodic processes.
We use Alpha machines here for Netrek. It's very difficult, on a 266MHz
machine, to see "xload" as anything other than an empty box on screen.
