I just ran across an article titled "Multiple Roles, Multiple Teams,
Dynamic Environment: Autonomous Netrek Agents' published by Marcus Huber
and Tedd Hadley in one of the ACM proceedings.  There is a footnote
in the first page that reads, "This research was sponsored in part by the
NSF under grant ..., and by DARPA under contracts DAAE-..."  I find it
hilarious that NSF and DARPA gave money for these guys to play Netrek!

ACM grants free distribution for person/classroom use under certain
conditions but prohibits posting to a server, so if you don't have access
to ACM DL but want a copy of this article, let me know.
