(ASCEND) Pipeline 50 and Merlin Legend

Has anyone had experience connecting a Pipeline 50 to a Merlin Legend
System? I have been unable to configure the router and get it to connect
to the switch. It won't perform a self test let alone dial a connection. 
The telephone company switch type is AT&T 5ESS so I used AT&T Point to
Point as the switch type on the pipeline. That left me with only being
able to use one channel regardless of what chan usage type I set. The
"10-100 Link" status window showed a p and a "." next to the second
channel. Why can I only use one channel with this switch type and what
could I have configured wrong so that it doesn't connect?
