I am on month number two in my love affair with them %-)   but,
I have done at least two TAOS v7.2.3 upgrades (and just to make
it difficult they were 100's or 1000's of ocean miles away from me ;-)

Anyway the "Backoff Q" error explanation was found in the manuals
for the TNT. If you don't have them ... be sure to visit FTP.ASCEND.COM
and get your very own .pdf of the whole thing ... (very handy, very searchable).
* If you cannot find the .pdf manuals ... let me know and I'll try and tar/gz 
it for you, just give me an FTP place to put it.

Radius client timeout is probably with the settings in "read external-auth". 
Probably you should make the timeouts larger.

Interestingly ... the TAOS upgrade DID fix problems with cheap modems
(reportedly popular in Colombia) call HSP Modems.
