RE: (ASCEND) User logins - Scripts Vs PAP
Thanks to those who answered. I got several responses suggesting all I
need to do was:
Ethernet > Answer > PPP Options > Recv Auth=PAP
The only problem with this (oops!) is that it breaks those who *DO* use
CHAP authentication.
Previously, our Max was set as:
Ethernet > Answer > PPP Options > Recv Auth=Either
but it *appears* that only works for login/CHAP and doesn't fall back to
PAP, while Recv Auth=PAP will do login/PAP but NOT CHAP!
We have a number of clients using routers with CHAP authentication,
including some of our own remote POPs using local profiles on this max.
One of them went down at 5am sunday morning, and was unable to bring the
link back UP until I changed auth back to "Either".
Perhaps I need to re-state my needs in the hope there *IS* an answer?
Requirements:
- Callers using scripted login, or terminal window, can log in
and get authenticated via Radius
- Callers using windows DUN can authenticate with PAP via Radius
- Callers using routers with CHAP only support can continue to
log in and authenticate via Radius
- Other Max4000 and Cisco 1603 calling in can authenticate via
CHAP using local profiles on the max.
Can this all be done? How?
Frustrated,
RossW
