RE: (ASCEND) Prefered Modems w/MAXen?
Peter and all,
This is exactly what we've experienced with our Mac ARA clients. When
we upgraded to 6.0b2, all of our Global Village customers with ARA 2.0
client for Mac stopped working. After much grief, we discovered the
upgrade to ARA 2.1 'AND' uploading the latest scripts was the only
solution. Ascend blames it on the vendor (GV) but the older software
and scripts have been working for us since we turned the service up some
3 years ago. Yes, the 6.0b2 is beta, but Ascend should at least admit
this is a code problem on their side and try to resolve the issue.

Dunno about a "magic list", but I can say that we have a large
percentage
of users using Global Willage modems (all models) with no
problems.
The GV modems are unique (on Macs at least) in that the majority
of them
require CTS Only handshaking, rather than the usual CTS/RTS
(DTR) more
common with high-speed (such as it is) modems.
They are also picky about their init strings. AT&F1 ain't gonna
cut it.
Hope this helps.
