RE: (ASCEND) NFAS on TNT help

Stephen, while configuring NFAS is not the worst thing to do, it can
sometimes be tricky. Here are some of the things I have run across during
my own endeavors.

1. Never assume what the Telco is providing. If you did not specifically
ask to do NFAS then I doubt they gave it to you. Some RBOC's and Telco's
charge extra for NFAS.

2. You have to tell the D-channel that it is NFAS Primary or Secondary. I
believe the actual setting is
nfas-primary-d-channel and nfas-secondary-d-channel

3. One other thing that I have found is that your NFAS-ID and the Telco's
NFAS-ID have to match or it won't work. In other words, if you have your
first T-1 to be NFAS-ID=1 and they have it to be NFAS-ID=0 then you will
have problems. All NFAS-ID's in the NFAS Group need to match with the
Telco's NFAS-ID's. Also, be sure that the Telco doesn't put your Primary
and Secondary D-channel on the same card in their switch or else you will be
shooting yourself in the foot. If they lose the card you lose both
D-channels and all trunks associated with that group. I know this sounds
like a no-brainer, but believe me I have seen it happen.

Hopes this helps.

Subject: (ASCEND) NFAS on TNT help

I am stumped on this one...

I have configured a TNT to take in 4 PRIs sharing a same D channel (telco
provisioned that way). Assuming they're using NFAS signaling, I configured
the NFAS-ID, NFAS-group-ID, and set the 24th channel on primary line to be
D channel, while rest are switched.

All the lines came up, except only calls to the primary PRI will be routed
to the modem. Calls to other PRIs result in no sound at all.

Did I misconfigured something? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Stephen
