RE: (ASCEND) Capabilities Max 4000

The max 4000 has 64 hdlc's built in and the expansion card extends this to
96. If you are expanding your modem capibilities the hdlc's are not used.

I have a max 4004 with 4 pri lines, and no modems. I use the box for isdn
callesr only. this is where you need the hdlc card. isdn calls use the hdlc
chip. 1 chip per channel.
Hope this helps.

Subject: (ASCEND) Capabilities Max 4000

We are expanding one of our POPs that is being services by an older Max
4000 (Serial Number 606XXXX). Currently it is only servicing a single
PRI and 24 v.90 modems. We are looking to expand that location to 3
PRIs and 72 modems. I seem to remember that back when we bought this
unit there was an HDLC expansion card required to go beyond 48 modems.
I have searched on the Lucent web site, but can find no information to
confirm this.

Can anyone shed any light on what is required to accomplish this
expansion? We are currently running 6.1.24, no OSPF (possible future),
and no stacking.

Thanks.
