In a nutshell, Ascend used to give out a single hash code that enabled both
IPSec and Secure Access Firewall. I have a P130 running that code (but
using neither feature right now). I later got another P130 (with a newer
serial number), and when I asked for the Firewall code that's all I got, no
IPSec. I asked about it and they said they decided that the P130 doesn't
have the processor power to support both, so they only do either or. It
_will_ do both simultaneously, but very slowly, so they avoid giving the
hash code to avoid support calls.
If you ask nicely, they'll probably give you both codes, with the above caveat.
My 2¢: it's a cheap router that does a lot for the money. It just can't do
it all at once. It's a fair trade, IMHO. You can run BGP on a Cisco 25xx,
but that doesn't mean you should.
You can get the free Firewall code here: http://www.ascend.com/firewallforfree
HTH.
