(ASCEND) Max 4000 - Newbie questions - Basic config

Hello,

Our company is an ISP with two different locations:
There is a main LAN linked to another (smaller) via a T1 line

It is in this second one where we want to setup the ascend Unit (Max 4000)
in order to replace a
Compaq Microcom 4000 and a Livingston Portmaster.

First problem we noticed : after booting the Max 4000, The Alarm light is
on. I am wondering  if the kind of cable is good . Do we use a RJ48C or RJ
45 cable
to link the Max4000 ( Wan1 Port ) to the T1 line plug of the wall ?

Then our unit is linked to a 100 BaseT hub with a RJ45 cable ,on this hub is
also connected :
    a pc worstation (Win95 - NavisConnect 1.0) 206.163.166.169
    a Portmaster 206.163.166.140
    and a Cisco 1000 router 206.163.166.129

On the other side of the T1 line, in the main LAN we have a cisco router
206.163.137.252
our DNS Server (206.163.137.4) and our Radius server

For the moment I can ping the Ascend unit (and do a telnet on it) form the
local network but not from another location behind the router

Can somebody  give me a basic configuration for the Ascend Max 4000 ?
