Such messages are bounced to the moderator for manual/semi-automatic/
automatic approval.  I don't propose it, but merely stated that it's
possible.

There is a difference between "publicly" on vanilla-l and "publicly" on
WWW & Usenet.  The first cannot be combed by a spider.  The latter can.

Your phone number is listed in the white pages.  It's public.  I bet
you get annoying telemarketing calls.  If you give your number to me,
business associates or any other third party, would you be happy if
it is subsequently divulged to random people?  "I'm sorry, I'm not
interested in your product, but please call Jeff.  He won't be interested
either, but call him anyway.  His home number is ...  While you're at it,
let me send you a computerized list of all his family and friends that you
can import directly into your database.  They won't be interested either,
but call them anyway."

They are not moot points.  I object on principle.  I hope Bob follows
Netiquette and keeps the list addresses private.  Looking at the lack of
response on this list, though, I seem to be the only one who gives a damn.
Oh well, time to add more rules to my .procmailrc.
