That is what they intend to do, and what will most likely be.  Unless 
some insurmountable wall pops up.

We greatly overdesigned the DSP and memory for the PM-3 just to have a
wide safety margin.  It shouldn't be a problem.  I'd be kind of surprised
if Rockwell/Ascend didn't do the same on the new modem cards.

Don't forget all the V.34, V.32, etc. ;-)

One can only hope... ;-)  Sorry, but I wouldn't mourn the passing of
V.FC and V.FAST.  (Yes I know it would be a headache, but they need to
die SOMETIME...)
