YES!! This is one of those things that I just stumbled over; I had the
same problem and did not want to turn Pool-only off.

All you need to is set up a connection profile in the MAX itself with
the proper IP address and other stuff. Set it to active and there 
ya go. Since the MAX was still set to Pool-Only I did not expect it
to work, but it does, and it's secure as long as the IP address you
select is outside the pool range. I've tried, but there is no way to
get that IP adress without logging in through the proper connection
profile.

Since we have JAVA and web-enabled admin tools on our system, and they
will not run unless invoked from particular IP addresses, this solved
a huge problem for us. Now I can run the entire operation from home,
if I have to, and that just suits the hell out of me. ;-)
