(ASCEND) Connecting Max4000 & Cisco

This is primarily for Danilo Demarchi, Eugene Nesterenko and Mauricio
Teixeira:

- According to Brazilian Ascend Support (actually a reseller), it's NOT
possible to use HDLC to connect to Cisco (I was using 5.0ap16 then), so we
used PPP, and the leased line was VERY stable;
- Apart some BIG confusion in the manual, here's the settings you have to do
in theMAX to have it connecting properly (the Cisco settings are easy - I
hope! Since that end was in my local Telco, I didn't have to worry about
it):

1) In "Ethernet/Connections", create (and name) a new connection, with the
settings below:
Station=billgates (or choose a lighter name... ;-)
Active=Yes
...
Route IP=Yes
...
IP Options...
    LAN addrs= (VERY tricky: put the address of the LAN on THE OTHER SIDE of
the Cisco - see attached gif);
    WAN alias=0.0.0.0
    IF Adrs= (put the IP address FOR THE SERIAL PORT OF MAX - see attached
gif);
    ... (the rest are the common settings)
Telco Options...
    ...
    Call Type=Nailed
    Group=3 (why 3? Don't ask me! I was trying 1, and someone told that it
was 'better' to use 3...)

Go back to Main Menu, and enter...
Serial WAN/Mod Config
Module Name=billgates
Nailed Grp=3
Activation=Static

That's all!!!

I think you'll be able to make it work now...

Regards,
Ricardo
