         We have experienced this problem at one of our sister 
companies.  They have set up their radius with encrypted passwords.  I 
don't think there is any way for radius to do chap with this.  The 
passwords must be plain text.  So far, we have gotten away with leaving 
their boxes as PAP only.  I think your only solution will be to make sure 
you radius will do CHAP, and then convert you auth database to plain text 
passwords.
