(ASCEND) Max 6000 / help with Trumpet Winsock

We started the ISP business well after Win 95 was standard so I never had
to go through the days of using a Winsock with Win 3.11.

I have a new customer that wants to use Trumpet Winsock and IE on a 3.11
machine with our service.  We don't support SLIP and terminal service is
disabled on our Max 6000.  We accept PPP with either PAP or CHAP.

I have tried to set the profile up for the customer but am getting stuck
after the connection is made during the name and password authentication. 

The Max reports 120 and 30 which means unsupported protocol.

Any advice from experienced Trumpet users?  Does the Max prompt for name
and password like a Portmaster 2 would?  If so, what are the strings?
