I think the main problem is that ntserv or daemon have an open file
descriptor to the .players file and use it on each death to update the
statistics. It isn't trivial to add code to handle this special case.
For the moment (2.9pl0), I think the log should be sufficient.
When we merge Dave Ahn's LTD stats in (3.0pl0), then the INL robot can
effectively perform a binary diff of the .players file or the in-memory
stats structures against what it was before the game started in order to
generate a delta.
