Re: (ASCEND) 56k flex connect to Max4004

I have fixed two pcmcia K56 modems (Zoom & Intel) that refused to connect at
anything higher than 33k6. The problem is that they are defaulting to mu-law
encoding instead of A-law. To test and fix it follow these two steps:

1: Start a terminal session with the modem and type AT+MS?
2: If it returns 56,1,300,56000,0,0,33600 that is your problem. The fifth
field should be 1. To fix it use the init string
AT+MS=56,1,300,56000,1,0,33600.

If it does work maybe your customer (or you) would enjoy ringing Fujitsu and
asking

1: Why aren't their modems properly configured?
2: How come their engineers didn't know the answer to such a common
problem?

Cheers
