Many distributions expect some user knowledge - and  many ISPs
especially universities use send-exec login to unix hosts.

Personally I would like to see only one method - it would make my
life a lot easier, what with user/login, CHAP, MS-CHAP, PAP to
name a few....

Maybe pointing this comment to a few distribution maintainers
rather than the ascend user list (unless Lucent/Ascend are (or have
and I have missed it) launching a distribution of Linux).
