(ASCEND) Frequent Disconnects

I have read through many pages of the archives about frequent disconnects
and logging on. I am not finding the answer to my question, so here goes...

I have a number of Max 6000s and in the past 2 1/2 weeks we have started to
have serious disconnect problems as well as problems with people getting
disconnected as soon as they authenticate or not get connected at all. I
was running with 7.0.x software and decided to upgrade to 8.0.2. Did I jump
too many versions and mess things up? It seems to be happening with all
kinds of modems. Coincidentally we installed a new Max 6000 with the 8.0.2
software pre-loaded when all this started happening. We are dealing with 2
locations and 2 different telcos. At one location, we have fiber in our
building where our dialup lines are terminated, so I am eliminating the
telco. I tried downgrading to 7.2.3 and that didn't make much difference,
so I am back at 8.0.2. I know that there us usually an "acceptable"
disconnect rate due to modem issues. However, we have gone way past the
acceptable.

Any suggestions? Do I need to wipe the MAXs and start over? If so, how do
I do that? This has gotten to be very frustrating.

Thanks
Chris
